Getting decked over the holidays

I truly love the holidays and I’m a little sad to see them go. Im the person that will leave my decorations up to the very last minute. (My tree is still up as I type).

Wes knows that Christmas is my favorite holiday and this year with our son celebrating for the first time, I wanted it to be perfect! We got our tree early and decorated which was great. But in the weeks leading up to Christmas, it wasn’t just the weather that didn’t have it feeling like the holidays. My father who has been in Ghana for the past 4 years came back to New York and unfortunately it wasn’t under the best circumstances. He was very sick, and my family and I restructured our schedule so that we could be at the hospital round the clock. I really didn’t feel like doing anything but we had two new babies in the family and four kids under 18 so we didn’t want them to feel the stress that we were feeling.

One thing that I was reminded of this year is that family makes everything better. We didn’t get to have our traditional get together with all the best food. In fact we ordered food from El Valle (a local Spanish restaurant) and had dinner with my dad. Afterwards everyone came to our house and we let the kids open their gifts. It was more than I expected and maybe it wasn’t perfect but it still ended up being special.

Was this a traditional holiday for you or did you have some changes? If so how did you get around them?

Below are some pics of Kwasi opening and enjoying his gifts.
