In 2012 when we became friends we had no idea that 2 years later, we would be married with a baby on the way! It may seem like it was a whirlwind romance but everything came together the way it was supposed to. We started dating in May of 2013. We had already been friends for a year (Thanks Mel and Mil) and actually had met before in 2008, but back then, no sparks flew. Everything happens at the right time ;-)

In November of 2013, I decided to go to Ghana (part of my #ThisIs30 Journey) and Wes, came along with me, my Mom, brother, and one of my best friends. It was the first time that I would be in my parent’s country. I was also very excited because I would get to see my Dad, who is a Chief in his hometown; I had not seen him 2 years. It would also give me the opportunity to introduce my Dad to the man I had fallen in love with. In the meanwhile, I had no idea that Wes had been secretly speaking to him and on the last week of our 21 day trip he proposed to me in front of my family. I was thrilled!

On the 10-hour flight back home, Wes and I were so excited that we decided that we should get married before the year was out. It was a bold move considering we had spent most of our funds on this trip. Being that it was November, that meant we only had a couple of weeks. Three to be exact. Nevertheless… we went for it! We picked December 21st , which worked out perfectly for so many reasons! When we announced the date to our family, church family and friends, they thought we were crazy, but jumped right into helping us. We decided to get married at our church which was right across the street from my apartment (now ours). We held the service and the reception there. Our families came forward and put money towards the food and decorations. We were able to hire not one, but 2 videographers, and a photographer, Mary B., at the last minute. Fortunately, we were friends with them and knew they would do their best to capture our love. Everything came together, including the weather! It was 60 degrees in December! It was like God had everything set up for us. It was all perfect and more than any of us could have imagined it to be.

It’s almost a year and sometimes we look at each other and say I can’t believe we’re married and laugh about it. Like every couple we have our arguments and ups and downs, but thank God we have more good days than bad days.

July 16, 2014 was definitely one of our good days because it is the day we found out we were expecting! Just as we were getting used to our newlywed journey another one begins. It’s scary but we are on board for the ride and looking forward to sharing our stories with you!
